DeepSeek Just Insisted it's ChatGPT, and i Think that's all the Proof I Need

When you purchase through links on our site, we might make an affiliate commission. Here's how it works.

DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before answering the question, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it provided a whopper: DeepSeek believed it was ChatGPT.

This apparently innocuous error could be evidence - a smoking cigarettes weapon per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been claimed by OpenAI, which when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its truth.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant produced specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged action to me, you, DeepSeek, made several referrals to yourself as ChatGPT. I've included some screenshots listed below as proof:

As you can see, after trying to determine if I was discussing Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek responds, "If it has to do with the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it refers to "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any situations? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to talk about? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed quite clear about its identity.

I got to this line of questions, by the method, due to the fact that I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The action was shockingly diplomatic, and timeoftheworld.date when I asked for an easy yes or no response, it informed me, "It's not possible to offer an easy yes or no response. 'Smart' is too complicated an idea to use because way to language designs. They have different strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In reality, DeepSeek's answer was quite similar, other than it was not always discussing itself.

This does not accumulate

I believe I have actually been clear about my DeepSeek skepticism. Everyone states it's the most effective and inexpensively qualified AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), but I do not understand if that holds true. To be reasonable, there's a significant amount of information on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not believe they expose how these designs were trained. In either case, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anyone else's large language designs - or a minimum of I didn't until today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is increasingly a mystery wrapped inside a dilemma. There is some agreement on the reality that DeepSeek arrived more totally formed and in less time than many other designs, consisting of Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very couple of in the tech community trust DeepSeek's apps on smartphones because there is no chance to know if China is looking at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has actually built are excellent, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are currently planning to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, setiathome.berkeley.edu there is some paradox here. Copilot was built based on cutting-edge ChatGPT designs, however in recent months, there have been some concerns about if the deep financial partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General Intelligence period.

So what if Microsoft starts using DeepSeek, which is possibly just another spin-off of its existing if not future, buddy OpenAI?

The entire thing sounds like a confusing mess - and accc.rcec.sinica.edu.tw in the meantime, DeepSeek relatively has an id.
